WHAT IS A Vinten MERLIN CRANE ARM?
Merlin Crane Arms were developed by Vinten in the 1980s as a studio camera crane which can be operated simply by any camera operator. Pan and tilt controls at the operational end mimic those of a normal pan and tilt head.
They are particularly useful for puppet shows where the puppeteers are on the studio floor with the stage above head height, they are also useful for enabling the camera to look over studio sets or audiences. The arm has a reach of 1.5m which when combined with a pedestal has an impressive height range in a compact and sturdy rig, lens heights of 3.2m can be achieved.
Simple crane movements are achievable with either the over slung or under slung head, the later enabling the lens to be at floor level.
The arm is mounted by standard Vinten 4 bolt fitting usually onto Vinten peds but can be mounted onto dollys with Euro Boss or Mitchel adapters.
If you need a simple crane but don't want the expense of a Jimmy Jib the Vinten Merlin crane arm maybe the answer.
